Du soir au matin

Drawing on three works by women composers, the Trio Sōra lets us hear the changing colours of the piano trio at the turn of the twentieth century. Although these works were written almost half a century apart, both Cécile Chaminade (1887) and Charlotte Sohy (1931) approach the Classical three-movement piano trio genre with the same concern for contrasts and changing moods. While the former looks to the future, the latter is firmly anchored in tradition. In 1907 Mel Bonis freed herself from the formal constraints of the piano trio in her diptych, Soir and Matin, midway between the salon piece and the serious genre. It presents two different moods: a mostly calm, peaceful evening atmosphere in the first piece, while the second one, though quiet, features a restlessness characteristic of awakening.

Concert followed by a cocktail.
