A student (and later the son-in-law) of Fromental Halévy and a close friend of Charles Gounod, and also – together with Camille Saint-Saëns and Jules Massenet – the bearer of the hopes of a new Romantic generation, Georges Bizet cannot be remembered without reference to his masters and contemporaries. This programme of art songs (mélodies), presented in collaboration with the Académie de l’Opéra national de Paris, pays tribute to the musical ties and the bonds of friendship that existed between this great figure of French Romanticism and his peers.
