Although he was an excellent pianist, Bizet never wanted to be a concert artist. He did, however, put his talents as an instrumentalist at the service of his fellow musicians through the Société nationale de musique, of which he was one of the first active members. Created in 1871 to enable rising composers to present their works in public, the society set a new course for French music. During the concerts it organised, we find Bizet accompanying, playing four hands or two pianos, in recent works by Massenet, Saint-Saëns, Guiraud, Lalo... Roberto Prosseda shows us – as a soloist – the aesthetics of that generation who revisited the virtuosity of the Romantic piano.
