Charles Gounod’s Requiem, performed in Vienna in 1842, had never been published, despite the enthusiasm it aroused at the time, including that of Felix Mendelssohn. Here it is coupled with Les Sept Paroles du Christ (1867) by Théodore Dubois, another ambitious work that deserves to be more widely known.
