Camille Saint-Saëns: science and travel in the service of music

Study day Online
In many ways, Camille Saint-Saëns perfectly embodies the major trends of his time: aesthetically, of course, but also through his incessant travels, his interest in technical advances, his erudition, his scientific thinking. Five lectures will shed new light on various examples of this, concentrating respectively on his attitude to Darwinian evolutionism, the organology of his time, universal exhibitions, astronomy, and history.
