Massenet, a must!

Ariane

Opera in five acts by Jules Massenet, first performed at the Paris Opéra on 31 October 1906
Concert Opera
Combining Greek mythology (the story of Ariadne) with Symbolist poetry, the libretto of Ariane, written by Catulle Mendès, takes Massenet on a journey of heroism, passion and despair. ‘It would be difficult to find a simpler and more poignant subject’, he later commented.
