Hérold, Louis-Ferdinand
Louis-Ferdinand Hérold (1791-1833) was a musician and composer of arias, hymns, symphonies and overtures, although he also composed ballets and opéra comiques, a genre in which he emerged as one of the forerunners of stylistic elements that were to characterise 19th-century French music. His best-known works include Zampa ou La Fiancée de Marbre (1831) and Le Pré aux Clercs (1832).
