Louise Farrenc was a concert pianist and composer, professor of piano at the Paris Conservatoire, and, with her husband Aristide, a well-known music publisher. The couple were noted in particular for their twenty-volume collection of “ancient and modern pianoforte music” entitled Le Trésor des pianistes.
This complementary activity tells us something about Louise Farrenc’s conception of the art of the professional musician: skill as a performer was of course required, but also an in-depth knowledge of the repertoire. The pianist Célia Oneto Bensaid here presents Romantic pieces from the Trésor.
