On 22 April 1849 Louise Farrenc’s Third Symphony, her last, was premiered by the prestigious Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, thus lending the work legitimacy. The Messe solennelle of 1825 is an early work by Hector Berlioz. He later borrowed material from it for other works, including his Symphonie fantastique.
