The romantic heritage

Symphonic Music
Louise Farrenc’s three symphonies, notable works in her repertoire, are presented in concert this season. The first one, premiered in Brussels on 23 February 1845, will be performed by the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, in a programme also including Berlioz’s cantata Cléopâtre, written in 1829 for the Prix de Rome competition, and the overture to Cherubini’s Médée (1797), a work that heralded the birth of Romanticism.
