Louise Farrenc, a child of the century

In the shadow of Berlioz

Little appreciated by his contemporaries, the works of Hector Berlioz are now so popular that they tend to overshadow those of other French Romantic composers. Berlioz, who was a friend of Franz Liszt, and followed closely the compositional activities of Wagner, shared with Louise Farrenc not only a critical view of his time, but also a great admiration for Beethoven.

Although their stylistic paths diverged, they both participated in the development of a French aesthetic space that was to be explored constantly until the beginning of the twentieth century by the young Camille Saint-Saëns. On two pianos, Naïri Badal and Adélaïde Panaget visit that “space”, with its bold compositions and fantastic images.
