For her first recital disc with orchestra, Elsa Dreisig has devised a programme of mirror images — five pairs of arias, loosely linked. These portraits constitute a deliberate clash of musical styles, dramatic moments, historical periods and contrasting vocal styles: classicism and Romanticism sit side by side, terror alternates with joy and it is the feminine soul in all its facets that is revealed.
The scores and parts for both the Gounod and the Steibelt Roméo et Juliette excerpts (tracks 5 and 6) have been edited and furnished by the Palazzetto Bru Zane.
