Fauré and Enescu, master and pupil

Thirty years after the completion of Fauré’s Piano Quartet no.1 (1880), his former student, the Romanian composer George Enescu, wrote a work for the same forces. Although Enescu had left the master’s class ten years earlier, Faurean influence is still palpable in these three movements.
