Saint-Saëns, Camille
French virtuoso pianist, composer and teacher, Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) also wrote numerous articles as a music critic, making it his mission to rehabilitate various composers from earlier periods. He was one of the founders of the Société Nationale de Musique in 1871. His best-known works include Samson et Dalila (1877), Henry VIII (1883) and the Carnaval des Animaux (1886).
