'Women Are not Born to Compose': Female Musical Works from 1750 to 1950
Symposium
Online

The growing interest of researchers in the careers and works of female composers means we must take the time to investigate the coherence of the corpus formed by the output of women. The main focus of this conference’s debates will be the constraints that weigh on them: from the prohibitions of certain practices to prejudices about their abilities, how do social conventions and misogynistic postulates shape careers? And what strategies have been found to circumvent them?
