Les Abencérages
Opera in three acts by Luigi Cherubini on a libretto by Étienne de Jouy, premiered on 6 April 1813 at the Académie Impériale de Musique (Paris)
Opera

In 1813, Les Abencérages marked Luigi Cherubini’s return to the stage after ten years of silence. Its scope, its musical ambitions and its skilful interweaving of a love story with a vast historical fresco situate this work at the dawn of French grand-opéra.
