A little-known musical object, the Romantic motet deserves in-depth examination today. This conference will examine its history, its place in religious and social practices, and its dissemination and reception in France in the second half of the nineteenth century. It will review the repertory and its evolution, but also interrogate the writing of the genre and the conditions of its performance. The final objective will be to set the genre in the perspective of other contemporary productions and to analyse its posterity.
