Fauré / Requiem

Symphonic Music
While Fauré's illustrious and peaceful Requiem is the centrepiece of this programme, exalting the poetic and intimate links between the voice and the orchestra, it gains even more from the light cast on it by the melodies that surround it.

With the exception of Berlioz's Nuits d'été, the French mélodie avec orchestre of the late nineteenth century remains a little-explored heritage - a gap that the Palazzetto Bru Zane is gradually filling through an intensive programme of research and recordings by performers such as Sandrine Piau and Tassis Christoyannis.

The genre inspired Fauré, Saint-Saëns and Massenet to write works of great beauty, far removed from the glitz and glamour of opera, but radiant with their blend of timbres and subtle harmonies. The trio of soloists, joined by the Accentus Choir and the Orchestre de chambre de Paris conducted by Laurence Equilbey, also a seasoned explorer of these little-travelled lands, delight in these confidential miniatures.

This concert will be recorded by France Musique for broadcast for the first time on 13 May 2024 at 8 pm.
