Claire de lune

Live Concert Salle Bourgie Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal
Baritone Jean-François Lapointe and harpist Valérie Milot join Mathieu Lussier and the orchestra of Les Violons du Roy in an exploration of the world of fairytales, legends, and mysteries, working their way through the French repertoire. When it comes to the mélodie or art song, the masterpieces by Fauré, Debussy and Ravel sometimes seem to have appeared out of the blue like some miracle of spontaneous generation. However, if we focus only on these pinnacles of achievement, we would be ignoring a whole century of thought and dispute on the subject of the mélodie and particularly the mélodie with orchestra, which came in for special attention by the French school: the ‘orchestral colour’ was placed in the service of the poem, which was generally regarded as superior to the music.
